Why he became the villain instead

As a child, school after school, recognition kept going to Metro Man. Unable to win as a hero, he decided to maximize what he was already being cast as. An origin that frames identity as environment, not choice — which the film then spends its runtime disproving.

He finally defeats Metro Man — and feels empty. 'What does a villain do next?' The void that opens after winning drives the rest of the story.
