Those were $500 sunglasses, asshole!

📍 His legendary arcade ending line from MK1 (1992). Over-the-top ego in a single sentence — fans have quoted it for decades.

The camera loves me. I can't help it.

📍 Pure narcissism delivered with comic flair — the punchline being that he actually is as good as he thinks.

Cassie will surpass her old man. That's what I want.

📍 The moment the mask drops — beneath the ego is a father who genuinely wants his daughter to exceed him.

Empowered Shadow Magic stance introduced in MK11 — his latent power as an Earthrealm Chosen fully awakened.

📺 Story Highlights

EP 01MK (1992)

The Showman Arrives

Enters the tournament for a TV stunt and gets real combat. Starts as a punchline — ends as a genuine champion.

EP 02MK X (2015)

Growing Into Fatherhood

His daughter Cassie joins the Special Forces. The showman has grown into a tactician and a father watching his child fight.

EP 03MK 1 (2023)

Cornerstone of the New Timeline

In the rebooted timeline he's Earthrealm's cornerstone guardian. Fewer jokes, more gravitas — but still Johnny Cage.

🤔 Trivia

01One of the original seven MK1 fighters, Johnny Cage parodies 80s action stars like Jean-Claude Van Damme.

02His green Shadow energy was explained in MK X as evidence of ancient warrior bloodline — he's descended from god-touched fighters.

03In-universe, Johnny Cage does all his own stunts — a detail that blurs the line between his real and Hollywood fighting.

04Killed in MK11's ending when Liu Kang resets history — yet returns in MK1 (2023) in the new timeline.

💭Personality Deep Dive

Johnny Cage is a man of real contradictions: ego and genuine courage layered together. He started as a pure showman, but repeated near-death and war shaped him into a real hero. The jokes are armor — he cracks wise in terror to mask it. His relationship with Cassie is where the real Johnny finally surfaces.
